Trinity United Methodist holds coat drive

Bluffton Trinity United Methodist Church is hold its annual coat drive. Items collected include boats, scarves, hats, mittens and gloves. Drop-off sites are at several Bluffton locations including:

  • BFR
  • Bluffton Public Library
  • Community Market
  • Luke's
  • First National Bank
  • Bluffton Trinity United Methodist Church, State Route 103

School board schedules annual evaluation of superintendent and treasurer

Bluffton school board's Oct. 18 agenda includes the discussion of employment or personnel and yearly evaluation and employment of the school treasurer and superintendent.

According to the board agenda, released on Oct. 15 those discussions will be in executive session.

Several other agenda items on the meeting include a five-year forecast for fiscal years 2011-2015.

Some contracts, assignments and resignations will be acted upon. The 2011-12 school calendar will be considered for adoption.

United Way still accepting donations

Although the door-to-door solicitation of the United Way of Bluffton, Beaverdam and Richland Township is completed, donations for the United Way are still being accepted.

Fall instrumental concert Oct. 30 at Bluffton University

Bluffton University's Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble will take center stage Saturday, Oct. 30, at the university's annual fall instrumental concert, at 7:30 p.m. in Yoder Recital Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

Dr. Jeffrey Boehm, professor of music, conducts the Concert Band, which will perform five numbers by Russian composers. Rimsky-Korsakov and Shostakovich will be represented, and Brandon Fullenkamp, a Bluffton senior from Wapakoneta, will conduct "Pictures at an Exhibition," one of two pieces by Modest Mussorgsky on the program.

Spiritual Life Week Forum speaker heads Mission Year, urban initiative

Leroy Barber, president of Mission Year, an urban initiative that seeks to place 18-29-year-olds in a mission and communal living situation for a year, will speak at Bluffton University's Spiritual Life Week Forum at 11 a.m.,Tuesday, Oct. 26, in Founders Hall. His presentation is free and open to the public.

Barber has spent more than 20 years confronting poverty, homelessness and racism in the United States. In 1990, he served homeless families and children who were living on the streets of Philadelphia and founded Restoration Ministries to carry on his work there.

2011 Relay for Life of Bluffton planning underway

Planning for the 2011 Relay for Life of Bluffton is underway. The 2011 Relay will be June 24-25, 2011, held in conjunction with the Amerifest. According to last year's sponsors, the 2010 Relay total was $31,893

Wednesday, Nov. 10 - Committee meeting at 6 p.m. Bluffton town hall, third floor. This meeting is open to anyone interested on being on the 2011 Relay Planning Committee.
