Funeral arrangements are pending for Ryan Stackhouse

Ryan D. Stackhouse, 47, of Bluffton passed away July 26, 2024 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay.  Services will begin at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.  Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. & 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Arrangements are incomplete at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.

Bluffton University celebrates 125 years

Bluffton University will celebrate Homecoming Oct. 4-6 The 125th anniversary of Bluffton University will be celebrated during this Homecoming weekend. Activities will include "campus tours, Beaver Tail-Gating, inflatables, athletic events, friends and celebrating 125 years of Bluffton!"

Weekend Doctor: What’s a fever?

Fever. A common question for many parents is, “What is considered a fever?” Fever in children can be scary, but just because there is a fever does not always mean there is cause for alarm. Normal body temperature is considered 98.6 F (37 C). In the world of pediatrics, a fever is considered 100.4 F (38 C) per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). 

A fever helps the body by stimulating the immune system to fight the infection. Other common reasons children will develop a fever are overdressing, immunizations and occasionally teething, although in these cases the fever is typically less than 100 F. 

If your child is under three months old and has a fever of 100.4 F or higher, you should seek medical attention.

Nester featured on NPR puzzle program

Bufftonite Darryl Nester was the talented and lucky contestant to match wits with National Public Radio’s puzzle master Will Shortz on the Sunday, July 21 program.

With the support of host Ayesha Rascoe, Nester performed nicely in a live puzzle quiz that he said left him “relieved.”

Nester had his name drawn from among 900 listeners who correctly answered this challenge: 

Think of a famous actor and a famous actress who co-starred in a classic movie of the past. The actress's first name, when reversed, and the actor’s last name, spelled forward, are similar romantic gifts. Who are these film stars?

 He told Shortz and Rascoe that he has been following the program for some 28 years.
