Bluffton Football GOAT? Let's ask Bill Herr

Bill Herr taught high school mathematics and science for 32 years. Next, he served as chaplain at a nursing home for 24 years. In this column, he returns to a favorite subject, Bluffton sports.

The Bluffton Democrats are hosting a "front porch-front yard-driveway pop up  event" on Saturday, September 21. From the organizers: "Democrats — and other friendly folks who are undecided or who are Independents —in the surrounding counties of Allen, Auglaize, Van Wert, Putnam, Hancock, Hardin, and Van Wert are invited to take a break from their busy schedules to stop at our temporary election headquarters at 176 Albert St."

Ohio crop weather report for Aug 26

Dry Conditions Continue

Continued dry weather last week negatively affected crops, according to Ben Torrance, State Statistician, USDA NASS, Ohio Field Office. Topsoil moisture conditions were rated 33 percent very short, 42 percent short, and 25 percent adequate. Statewide, the average temperature for the week ending on August 25 was 65.3 degrees, 4.9 degrees below normal.

The flurry of building Bike-Pedestrian Pathways on the east side of Bluffton has resulted in two great new pathways. We will celebrate the County Line Path next Tuesday.

Please join us at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, as we dedicate the Lions Way County Line Path. The ceremony will take place in front of the Bluffton Child Development Center along County Line Road. Signs will direct you to parking.
