CASA of Allen and Putnam Counties seeks volunteer advocates; orientation meeting Jan. 29
A local service agency invites adults to consider volunteering in a program that assists victims of crimes. The next training class will begin March 12. An orientation to be held Tuesday, Jan. 29.
Amy Wiechart-Bayliff, volunteer coordinator of CASA of Allen and Putnam Counties, explained how the program works at the Jan. 11 Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce breakfast.
CASA of Allen and Putnam Counties, Ohio, was started in 2009 as a program of Crime Victim Services, a non-profit organization advocating for victims of crime. CASA of Allen and Putnam Counties, Ohio is one of 946 programs in the National CASA Association, along with 32 programs in Ohio. Currently, CASA of Allen and Putnam Counties, Ohio has 35 active volunteers, and the program has served over 165 children since 2009.
A Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) is a trained community volunteer, appointed by a judge, to be a voice for the best interests of an abused or neglected child. The ultimate goal of a CASA/GAL volunteer is to help ensure the child has a safe and permanent home. CASA/GAL volunteers are empowered to make a life-long difference in the lives of these children.
