The Bluffton Fall Festival is Saturday, Sept. 28. Events take place in several locations around Bluffton. This is part of a series detailing events at specific locations. This story tells about events at the Swiss Community Historical Society homestead.

The annual Fall Festival at the Homestead will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. by the Swiss Community Historical Society of Bluffton and Pandora. The Schumacher Homestead is located at 8350 Bixel Road between Bluffton and Pandora, and the event is free and open to the public.

The restored Schumacher House, 1840s garden, barn, workshop, and summer kitchen will all be open for self-guided tours.

Demonstrations of wood working, broom making, spinning, needle and fiber arts, bread baking, hearth cooking, horse plowing, hand milking, and other activities will be offered all day. A number of musical groups will perform, and soup, bread, cheese, cider, and popcorn will be available for a donation.

The event is family friendly and includes many activities geared to children including a straw bale maze, petting zoo, fishing in the creek, period games, a slingshot range, and horse-drawn wagon rides.

At 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. a “Festival Supper” will be available offering pulled pork sandwiches, coleslaw, au gratin potatoes, applesauce, and soft drinks. Tickets for the meal will be available at the Homestead during the festival for $8 per ticket.
