Alma professor to present women’s studies forum March 11
Dr. Kathryn Blanchard, an associate professor of religious studies at Alma (Mich.) College, will present “Lady Parts: Biblical Women and ‘The Vagina Monologues’” in Bluffton University’s women’s studies forum at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, in Founders Hall.
Free and open to the public, the presentation shares its title with a new book co-edited by Blanchard. She will address the question of how women in the Bible might tell their stories if prompted to do so by Eve Ensler’s controversial play, “The Vagina Monologues.” A recent collection of monologues by clergy, laywomen, scholars and undergraduates attempts to answer the question, Blanchard says.
A graduate of Kenyon College, Princeton Theological Seminary and Duke University, Blanchard is also the author of “The Protestant Ethic or the Spirit of Capitalism: Christians, Freedom, and Free Markets.”
