First Mennonite chancel choir to premiere choral piece during Easter worship service
First Mennonite Church invites the community to attend their Easter Sunday services on April 5. These include a sunrise service at 7:30 a.m. at the west-end shelterhouse of the Buckeye Park, a potluck breakfast at 9:30 a.m. in the church's fellowship hall, and worship service at 10:30 a.m.
During the worship service, the chancel choir -- under the direction of Dr. Mark Suderman, will premiere a choral piece composed by Dr. Peter Terry, “My Heart Takes Wing." Terry, an associate professor of information technology and music at Bluffton University, has been commissioned to compose music for numerous ensembles, chamber groups, concert bands and orchestras.
Rev. Steven Yoder will deliver the sermon during the worship service, and Rev. Gloria Hernandez Bucher will lead the sunrise service.
First Mennonite will also participate in the community procession of the cross at 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 3, and the ecumenical Good Friday service at noon at the English Lutheran Church. Both events are sponsored by the Bluffton Area Ministerial Association.
First Mennonite Church is located at 101 S. Jackson St. For additional information contact the church at [email protected] or 419.358.5766.
