It'll be a busy May at the Bluffton Public Library
Bluffton Public Library announces its May 2015 programs, opportunities, and services. Programs are open to the public, but when noted below, require registration.
BPL kicks off May with Paws to Read. On Saturday, May 2nd at 10am stop by the library to read a book to a certified therapy dog. Teddy and Tango love hearing stories or just getting a friendly cuddle from children, teens, college students, or whoever. This program supports literacy, the humane treatment of animals, and healthy stress relief practices.
Join BPL May 4th from 9:30am to 7:30pm for “May the Fourth Be With You” Palooza! We will be showing Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Animated Version) throughout the day. There will also be Star Wars crafts and photo opportunities. Yoda’nt want to miss this! Lemonade and popcorn are provided, but participants may feel free to bring their own snacks as well. Also, costumes and cheering are encouraged! Please remember that this is an event for the whole family.
On May 5th, kids are welcome to join BPL at 3:30pm for Kite Building with Charlie. Participants will be able to craft their own working kite. Children third grade and under must be assisted by an adult, and registration is required.
On May 5th at 6pm, the Gardeners of the Bluffton-Pandora Area group will meet on the lower level of the library.
On Tuesdays in May from 1:30-3, join the Dulcimer’s at the Library in the Richland Room in the lower level of the library. This group is open to the public and welcomes beginners.
The Adult Book Discussion is back on the first Wednesday of the month (May 6th) at 12pm. The group will discuss Jojo Moyes’s One Plus One. Next month’s book is Melanie Benjamin’s The Aviator’s Wife. Limited space and copies are available, so advance registration is requested.
Join BPL for Teddy Time at 3:30pm on Wednesdays, May 6th and 20th. Afraid of dogs? Stressed out? Need some company while you do homework? Teddy is here to help!
YogaFit(c), a yoga-based exercise class, is offered at Bluffton Public Library on Wednesdays at 6:30pm by BFR Sports & Fitness. For May, sessions are on the 6th, 13th, 20th. and 27th. Please contact BFR for more information and to register.
Our last Brain Builders for the Spring is on May 7th, 4:00pm-5:00pm. We’ll be celebrating with some LEGO Challenges. Please note that registration is required.
On Mondays, May 11th and 25th from 6 to 7:30 pm join us for Jammin' at the Library-- an informal time for acoustic musicians to come together "Song Circle" style and share their love of music. This program takes place on the main floor of the library or on the library’s front porch (near the main entrance) if the weather permits; pack your lawn chairs in case!
Chill Zone continues Tuesday afternoons (May 12th and 19th from 3:30pm to 4:30pm). Middle and High School students are welcome to hang out at the library for games, movies and crafts.

The Friends of the Library Book Sale is May 13th at 5:30pm (for members only),open to the public at 6:30pm, and continues daily from 9:30am until 7:30pm, closing Saturday, May 16 at 1:30pm. Not a member of the Friends of the Bluffton Public Library? It’s easy to become one! Bring $5 and fill out a simple membership form, and you’re in! Support your library, help plan events, and get first dibs on book sale materials.
On Monday, May 18 at 6pm on the main level of the library join BPL for a special concert by Doug Adams, local folk singer. He will perform “Peace, Love, and the Power of Song.” Bring a friend and attend this free event! Refreshment provided as long as they last!
The Gluten & Food Allergy Support Group continues to use the library as its meeting place. In May, their meeting is on the 18th at 6pm. Come to any meeting to join this group.
Check out our display in the New Book section, where you can drop off or pick up seed catalogs and seeds! Please be sure to label any seeds you drop off. Support your community and have fun sharing with one another at Bluffton Public Library.
BPL encourages patrons to stop by to view May’s community displays. The display case will feature items and information from the Gluten & Food Allergy Support Group that meets at BPL on the 18th. The library will also exhibit a book display that celebrates National Photo Month, and patrons are encouraged to take part in our interactive display celebration; bring in photos that you’re proud of, tag us in your favorite photo on Instagram using #weheartbluffton, or pin to our National Photo Month board on Pinterest.
