Men's Soccer falls at MSJ 2-0
October 12, 2016
CINCINNATI, Ohio - Although the men's and women's soccer teams were separated by 140 miles of Interstate 75, the scores and stats nearly mirrored each other as the Beavers dropped a 2-0 decision at Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016. The Bluffton men fell to 3-10 overall and 0-4 in the Heartland Conference, while MSJ improved to 8-2-3 and 3-0-1 in the HCAC.
Austin Masters put the Lions up 1-0 less than eight minutes into the match and Caleb Smith capitalized with just under three minutes to play in period one as MSJ took a 2-0 lead into the break. Bluffton held the home Lions at bay throughout the second half, but the Beavers were unable to dent the Mount's defense as the 2-0 score held up.
Senior Grant Stutzman (Sugarcreek/Hiland) finished with two shots while fellow senior Matt Hardman-Zimmerman (Forest City, Penn.) picked up six saves for the visitors. The home team dominated the stat sheet with a 25-5 margin on shots and 12-0 spread on corner kicks. Bluffton was whistled for six more fouls (9-3).
The Beavers travel to Hanover College for a 3:30 matchup with the Panthers on Saturday, Oct. 15.
