Wayne E. Marquart, retired farmer, was a 1953 Cory-Rawson HS graduate
Retired Eagle Township farmer, Wayne E. Marquart, died at 2:03 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay.
Wayne was born Dec. 18, 1934 near Jenera, Ohio, to the late Clifford and Leona (Benner) Marquart. He married Barbara Grose on Feb. 20, 1955.
Wayne and Barbara lived in Schwabach/Nuremburg, Germany, in 1956 and 1957
where he was stationed with the 56th Field Artillery Battalion, 8th Infantry Division, US Army.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Barbara; a son, James W. Marquart of Columbus; two daughters, Dr. Jill (Roger) Fox of Port Clinton and Julia V. (Kenneth) Horton of rural Findlay; five grandchildren, Daniel, Megan, April, Michael & Matthew Horton. He is also survived by two sisters, Betty (John) Rader of Findlay and Nancy (William) Villalta of Bowling Green. Wayne was preceded in death by a sister, Edna, in infancy.
Wayne retired in 1994 after 12 years as the night custodian at Cory-Rawson
High School. Prior to his military service, he was employed at Hochstettler Feed Mill and then worked hauling milk in cans from area farms to Findlay's Sealtest Dairy Co. After being discharged from the Army, he farmed and over the years also worked part time in Findlay at GW Sugar Beet Co., Ferry Morris Seed Co. and Kohls Department Store.
A 1953 graduate of Cory-Rawson High School, Wayne was a member of the
undefeated, unscored upon 1952 football team, which was Cory-Rawson's
first championship team after consolidation of Mt. Cory and Rawson schools.
He was named to First Team All-County Football in 1951 and 1952, Honorable
Mention All-Ohio Football in 1952 and received his FFA State Farmer Degree
in 1953.
Wayne was a member of Rawson New Hope United Methodist Church having
served as trustee, Sunday School Superintendent and custodian. He served
as President of the Board of Directors for the former Jenera Co-op Grain
Association, a past member of the Eagle Township Zoning Board and was a
member of Eagle Creek Historical Organization.
His hobbies included being involved with his grandchildrens lives and activities, woodworking and traveling having visited 20 countries and most of the 50 states.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at New Hope United Methodist Church in Rawson, with Pastor Ben Lowell officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 3-8 p.m. at Crates Funeral Home, Arlington and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to Rawson New Hope United Methodist Church.
