Lyons shatters 10,000m mark in St. Louis
March 31, 2017
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - In the cool of a St. Louis night, junior Kris Lyons (Vickery/Margaretta) and freshman Dakota Frost (Edgerton/Hicksville) both ran under-school record 10,000 meter races on Friday, March 31.
Competing in the Distance Carnival at Washington University, Lyons crossed the line at 32:27, breaking the existing record by 34 seconds and improving his personal best by almost a minute. Frost, in his debut at the distance, impressed mightily by finishing a mere 11 seconds behind Lyons at 32:38.
"These are the races I have been working at for the last five years," enthused distance coach Jim Brandt. "It takes a tremendous number of miles and discipline to prepare for the 10k but it is the coaches' job to provide the right opportunity to capitalize on that work. It was a gamble traveling that far but the meet has a reputation for quality fields and perfect running weather. Neither the meet nor the athletes disappointed. I simply could not be more proud of Kris and Dakota."
The remaining Beavers compete Saturday at the Otterbein University April Fool's Invite. Follow the Live Results here.
