Second restoration agriculture weekend in May

Encore and a question: Are you ready to change the world?

The success of last fall’s restoration agriculture workshop at the Agner farms in rural Bluffton is resulting in a second workshop planned Friday to Sunday, May 4-6.

Jonah Agner said that the May workshop focuses on:
• Designs to make your land more resilient in times of flood and drought
• Planning and selecting tree crops for your site
• How to integrate livestock into your site
• How to cash flow until your tree crops start to produce

The workshop takes place on the Agner farm, 20527 Township Road 56, Bluffton.

Agner explains restoration agriculture as the process of creating a viable ecological system based on natural patterns and relationships. It is perennial and produces staple foods, fuels, medicines and fibers for humans while providing an increasing number of available niches for animals – wild and domestic.

The keynote leader of the workshop is Mark Sheppard, who also led the fall workshop.

He will share his expertise with attendees’ interested learning about tools and strategies for creating restoration agriculture designs.

Last fall’s workshop was attended by over 30 persons from several states. Brothers Jerrod, Joel and Jonah hosted that workshop and host this one.

The three brothers and their families intend to support the community using regenerative agricultural practices. Those practices focus on native perennial plants to produce food, fuel, fiber and medicine.
