Beavers stop Manchester in three sets

The Bluffton University volleyball team traveled to Manchester University on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019, for a matchup against the Spartans. The Beavers secured a three-set victory (25-20, 25-22, 25-18) over the home team. Bluffton improved to 6-20 (2-4 HCAC) while Manchester dropped to 10-13 (0-5 HCAC).

Sarah Heydinger (Tiro/Buckeye Central) led the Beaver offense with 10 kills. Fellow junior Remi Bower (Deshler/Patrick Henry) put down six winners, two blocks and two service aces. Senior Carley Lester (Chesapeake) chipped in six kills against no errors for a red hot .600 hitting percentage. Sophomore signal-caller Maddie White (Ashland) dished out 25 assists in the victory.

Brooke Kleman (Glandorf/Ottawa-Glandorf) paced the Beaver defense with nine digs and she rifled three aces in the match. Chelsey Taylor (Hicksville) and Courtney Weekley (Butler/Clear Fork) also pitched in eight and five pickups, respectively. Freshman Kaylie Campbell (Camden/Preble Shawnee) knocked down two blocks for the visitors.

The women are back in action on Sunday, Oct. 27, when they head to Franklin College for a weekend double-header. First serve against Franklin is scheduled for noon with a non-conference match against Trine to follow at 2 p.m.
