Pirate golfers runner-up in 9-team invitational

CLYDE - The Bluffton golf team teed off its 2020 campaign by finishing a strong second in the nine-team Woodmore Invitational at the Green Hills Golf Course in Clyde Tuesday.
Tourney host Woodmore finished first with 322 strokes, 34 shots ahead of the runner-up Pirates (356).
Old Fort came in third with 361 strokes, followed by Toledo Christian (368), Eastwood (384), Otsego (393), Lake (402), Gibsonburg (417) and Rossford (420).
Kenny Lovett paced the Pirates by finishing third in the 51-player field with an 18-hole score of 82.
Bluffton's Micah Minnig tied for eighth with a score of 87. Wes Brauen posted a 92 and came in 15th. Jaden Coonfare rounded out the top four Pirate scorers as he registered a 95 to end up in 20th place.
Pirate Jacob Boisvert carded a 96 total to finish 22nd.
Dan Greenhill of Woodmore was match medalist with a score of 69. Teammate Ian Jacobson was a distant second after carding a score of 79.
The Pirates (7-1) are slated to host the eight-team Bluffton Invitational Friday at the Bluffton Golf Course, starting at 9 a.m. McComb, Leipsic, LCC, Upper Sandusky, Pandora-Gilboa and Mohawk are also scheduled to compete.
