Beaver volleyball team wins season opener at Adrian
The Bluffton University volleyball team showed off both its flexibility and talent when the Beavers traveled to Adrian College on Oct. 17, for the 2020 season opener.
After having its Tuesday matches against Trine canceled and the Saturday date with Manchester shelved, Bluffton shifted gears with a trip to Adrian that came together on Friday.
The Beavers took the first two sets before dropping the third. A convincing 25-14 win in the fourth set propelled the visitors to a 1-0 mark on the season.
Freshman Alysha Like (McComb) hammered away at the Bulldogs with 16 kills against just five errors for a .289 hitting percentage. Senior Remi Bower (Deshler/Patrick Henry) chimed in with 12 winners. Kaylie Campbell (Camden/Preble Shawnee) and Sarah Heydinger (Tiro/Buckeye Valley) added seven and six kills, respectively.
Junior Maddie White (Ashland) stuffed the stat sheet with 34 assists, 14 digs and eight blocks. Seniors Brooke Kleman (Glandorf/Ottawa-Glandorf) and Chelsey Taylor (Hicksville) picked up 17 and 16 digs, respectively. Like was in on four blocks and sophomore Courtney Weekley (Butler/Clear Fork) fired a pair of aces.
Bluffton is slated to travel to Manchester University for a 5:30 start on Thursday, Oct. 22, before welcoming Adrian to the Sommer Center next Saturday, Oct. 24, as part of the Virtual Homecoming Weekend.
