Pirate girls swamp Bearcats • Sville stops boys

Hannah Davis earned her first win with 5 innings of 4-hit, shutout pitching

BLUFFTON - Host Bluffton run-ruled visiting Spencerville 10-0 in a Northwest Conference softball mismatch Monday evening.

The Lady Pirates improved to 3-10 and 2-4 in the NWC after the shutout win. The Bearcat girls fell to 1-13 overall and 0-3 in the NWC with the defeat. 

Bluffton scored two runs in the first inning and one in the second to build an early 3-0 lead. The Pirate girls put the game out of reach with four runs in the third frame, and then tacked on three more in the fourth.

Bluffton hurler Hannah Davis earned her first win with five innings of four-hit, shutout pitching. Featuring good control, she struck out seven Bearcats and threw strikes on 44 of her 53 pitches.

Riley Busch smacked two doubles, singled and drove in a run to pace the Pirate offense. Dyllan Worcester slapped two hits and drove in a pair of runs. 

Lauren Swartzlander doubled, singled and collected two runs batted in. Kennedy Jordan singled twice and had one RBI. Rebekah Hoff knocked in two runs with a single. 

Sophie Bricker also singled home a run, while Ashley Fleece added a single.

The Pirate girls out-hit the Bearcats, 12-4. Bluffton also played error-less defense.

The Bearcats collected four singles, with one hit apiece by Jaclyn Boop, Kenzie Brown, Maddie Layman and Bri Regedanz.

Having snapped a four-game loss skid, the Pirate girls host winless local rival Cory-Rawson (0-11) Tuesday, April 27 in non-conference action. C-R (0-5 BVC) lost 18-6 at league foe McComb Monday.

Bluffton then resumes league play Thursday at Columbus Grove (7-7, 1-3 NWC). Grove lost 15-3 to LCC Monday evening.

Pirate boys run-ruled by Spencerville
BLUFFTON - The homestanding Bluffton baseball team dropped a run-rule shortened 11-1 verdict to Spencerville Monday evening in Northwest Conference play.

The Pirates dropped to 0-14 and 0-6 in the NWC with the five-inning defeat. The Bearcat boys improved to 3-12 (2-3 NWC) with the victory. 

Pirate freshman Garret Bogart collected two hits and and drove in the lone Bluffton run.

Jack Cox led the Bearcats with two hits, two runs and one run batted in. Teammate Cody Bockey singled in one run and scored twice.

Spencerville starter C.J. Johnston earned the win with three innings of hitless pitching. He struck out two Pirates and walked one. 

Bearcat Caden Johnson hurled the final two innings in relief, allowing two hits and one earned run. He struck out three and walked two.

The Pirates host local non-conference rival Cory-Rawson (3-9) Tuesday, April 27. 

Bluffton then resumes league play Thursday at Columbus Grove (5-7, 3-2 NWC). LCC blanked CG 9-0 Monday night in a non-league tilt.
