Hot-shooting Pirates disarm Knights

Playing at home, the Bluffton High School boys basketball team poured in 50 points over the middle quarters to rout visiting Van Buren 86-58 in a non-conference contest Tuesday night, February 15.

The Pirates drained a dozen triples to pave the way to victory.

With the win, the Pirates improved to 18-2, while VB fell to 7-14 after the loss.

Bluffton led 13-5 after the first period before heating up. They then racked up 25 points in each of the second and third periods to build a 63-43 cushion. 

The Pirates took the final stanza 23-15 to win by 28. They scored 73 points over the final 24 minutes.

Trent Donley led the Pirates with 24 points including two 3-pointers and 4 foul shots. Kyler Kinn netted 16 points on eight baskets. Trey Boblitt scored 15 points on five triples while Marek Donaldson tallied 16 markers on the strength of four treys.

Senior guard Landon Miller topped the Black Knights with 17 points.

Bluffton sank 33 field goals, hitting 21 two-pointers while drilling 12 treys. The Pirates converted eight of 12 attempts at the charity stripe (67 percent).

The Knights canned 20 baskets. They made 16 two-pointers and hit four triples. VB converted 14 of 19 at the foul line (74 percent).

Bluffton committed eight turnovers, while VB was guilty of 15 miscues.
