Ann Boyd lecture on direct seed sowing; Bluffton garden plots available

The Gardeners of the Bluffton/Pandora Area (GBPA) are inviting the public to a May 3 lecture given by Ann Boyd (herbalist and owner of My Own Backyard) on “The Waxing and Waning of Direct Seed Sowing.”  Boyd will talk about which herbs, flowers and vegetables grow best from sowing directly into the ground, plus much more.

DATE: Tuesday, May 3

TIME: 6:30 P.M.

LOCATION: Bluffton Community Garden, 9900 block of S. Main St.

NOTE: Please bring a chair and a friend!

COMMUNITY GARDEN PLOTS AVAILABLE

The GBPA also invites area residents to sign up for a plot in the garden:

"If you don’t have the space or the right amount of sun to grow your favorite veggies, herbs, and flowers, its time to check into Bluffton’s Community Garden.

There are few large 20’x60’ plots available, for those that want to grow large batches, or like to grow large vining things like pumpkins, gourds, potatoes etc.

There are also Discovery Plots available, which are 4’x 8’ raised beds, which come with a selection of seeds/plants, and planting/growing advice from club members.

We teach Mel Bartholemew’s Square Foot Gardening method to maximize the yield in the Discovery Plots, but folks can use whatever planting style they prefer.

Plots of either size are only $10 for the season, and gardeners are expected to remove any stakes/cages etc, at the end of each season, so plowing can occur.  Reserving a garden plot is done on a first come/first serve basis, so contact us ASAP, if you’d like a garden plot.  Deadline to reserve a plot is May 27."
