Louise Farling taught home economics

Louise Irene (Soldner) Farling, 94, of Bluffton, Ohio entered into the arms of her Lord in her Heavenly Home on Tuesday, October 4, 2022.

Louise was born on December 31, 1927, in Souderton, PA, and was the daughter of the late Grover Thomas and Beulah Lucille (Geiger) Soldner.  Louise married Charles “Chuck” William Farling on July 27, 1950. They were married 58 years before Chuck passed away in 2008.

Surviving are three children, Sara (Eurple) Spence of Findlay, David (Kim) Farling of Findlay, Mary Jane (Sebastian) Prospero of Port St. Lucie, Florida; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Louise was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Soldner and a sister, Helen Topham.

Louise grew up as a “Preacher’s Daughter” in the Mennonite Church, moving from Pennsylvania to Goshen, Indiana and then returned to Bluffton, Ohio when her mother became ill and passed away when Louise was 12. Her father married Eudora Layman one year later so that Louise would have a mother.

Louise graduated from Bluffton High School and Bluffton College (now Bluffton University) with her BS in Home Economics in 1950. She taught Home Economics at Glenwood and Central Jr High Schools in Findlay for 17 years before retiring in 1983.  She continued to substitute teach at Cory Rawson and Pandora Central Schools as Louise and Chuck had moved to both areas later in life before moving into Maple Crest in 2006, followed by the Mennonite Memorial Nursing Home where she was presently residing.

Louise’s hobby was painting beautiful sceneries on canvas. She was a naturally gifted artist. Louise and Chuck also enjoyed square dancing together, card games and going to the Moose Club to dance on Saturday nights with their friends. Louise served in the Ladies Ministries at St. Marks United Methodist, Findlay, Ohio for many years.  Louise was in the choir of the United Methodist Church in Mt. Cory. She will always be remembered for her love for her Lord and her family.  As well as, her quick witted and sometimes sassy sense of humor which her kids will miss immensely.

A Celebration of Louise’s Life will begin at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 10, 2022 at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, 239 S. Main Street, Bluffton, with William Herr officiating.  Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Knollcrest Cemetery, Arcadia.
