Bluffton softball loss to Bath

The Bluffton High School softball team lost a non-conference game to visiting Bath 7-3 Friday evening, May 5.
The Pirates fell to 9-11 overall with the defeat. Elida improved to 12-6 with the win.
Bath scored three runs in the top of the first frame, but the Pirates responded with two scores in the home half of the first.
The visitors tacked on a run in the fourth to go ahead, 4-2.
Bluffton pulled within 4-3 with a run in the bottom of the fifth. But Bath regained control with two runs in the sixth. The Wildcat girls then added an insurance run in the seventh to win by four.
Olivia Foster and Tea Sibert combined for seven hits and three runs from the top of the Bath order. Foster slapped four hits and scored two runs. Sibert amassed three hits, one run and a run batted in.
Addi Gibson cranked a two-run double for Bath. Anne Oliver added a two-run single.
The Wildcats out-hit Bluffton, 13-7.
Leadoff hitter Ashley Fleece compiled two hits, two runs and a stolen base for the Pirates.
Lauren Bassett contributed a double and a single to go with a run and one RBI. Karleigh Davis smacked a run-scoring double. Danielle Cross added a single and a stolen base.
Pirate pitcher Hannah Davis struck out six while giving up 13 hits and five earned runs. She did not walk a batter.
Bath hurler Kyree Stumbaugh scattered seven hits and allowed three earned runs to get the win. She struck out three and walked none.
The Wildcats left 10 runners on base while the Pirates stranded four. Bath made no errors, while Bluffton committed five miscues.
