Robert "Bob" W. Beery served in the U.S. Navy
Robert "Bob" W. Beery, age 70, passed away on March 4, 2024, at 6:00 a.m. at the Shawnee Manor Nursing Home.
Bob was born January 29, 1954, in Bluffton, OH, to Eldon W. and Sara M. (Oberly) Beery. His father preceded him in death and his mother survives in Bluffton. On November 11, 1978, he married Leilani (Betz) Beery who survives in Lima.
In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by his sons: James Young of Lima, OH and Shane (Annie) Young of Franklin, IN, 6 granddaughters and 2 great grandsons, 3 brothers: Wesley (Joyce) Beery of Urbana, OH, John (Danielle) Beery of Lima, OH and Larry (Michele Blubaugh) Beery of Bluffton, OH, life-long friends: Ed Andrews of Fort Jennings, OH, Ned Niswander of Bluffton, OH, Glenn Spangler of Ft. Jennings, OH and Dennis Amstutz of Ada.
Bob was a 1972 graduate of Bluffton High School. He then attended The Ohio State University where he earned a bachelor's degree in National Resources and Wildlife. For a short time he taught national resources at MAJVS in Zanesville, OH and then he took a position as a security guard at Allen County Correctional Institute. In 1980, he decided to change careers and join the U.S. Navy where he held the rank of FC1 (Fire Controlman) and served his country for 20 years, retiring in 2000. For the last 6 years of his career, Bob worked as a technician with US Plastics until his health prevented him from working. Bob was a member of St. Stephen's Orthadox Church, life-member of the VFW #1275 and when he was a young man, Alpha Beta Kappa. Some of Bob's interests included being an avid reader and watching old John Wayne movies and Indy Car racing. He will be remembered as always cutting up and making people laugh.
There will be a funeral service held on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 11:00
a.m. at the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL. Officiating the service will be Fr. Josh Coleman. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery following the service where military honors will be provided by the US Navy and the VFW #1275.
Friends may visit on Wednesday from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the EASTSIDE CHAPEL. Memorial contributions may be made to the Veteran's Food Pantry. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.chiles-lamanfh.com/
