BEVS Winter 2024 Newsletter sampler

The Bluffton Exempted Village Schools Newsletter will be in the mail for area residents, but it’s also attached in its entirety HERE. For your convenience, here’s a sampling from the four page update.
In the March 19 election, Bluffton ballots will include renewal of a 3.541 mills tax that generates $714,000/year for our schools. If passed, collection of this 5-year renewal will begin in 2025.
Bluffton’s elementary school was named as one of the top elementaries in Ohio in U.S. News and World Report HERE. The article lists Bluffton as #41 out of 1531 elementary schools in the state.
The newsletter includes reports from the elementary, middle and high school principals. Elementary principal Ben Thiel provides highlights from all grades, K-5. He notes that over 300 baked goods were donated to the January PTO Bakery Bingo.
Middle School principal Doug Westrick provides insight into the work of 6-8 graders including their service in and out of school. This year 8th graders are serving as reading partners with 1st grade students. Students also raked leaves in the community for those in need of help, including the elderly.
High School principal Mike Minnig notes that an Ohio Means Jobs coach is working with students to prepare them for life after high school. He also provides a reminder that in March students are making course requests for next year.
Technology Coordinator Courtnee Morris provides information about support for students, including a Mrs. Liberato’s Makerspace class and for teacher tech training.
The Music Department reports that almost 300 students are enrolled in vocal music in 2023-2024. Mark your calendars for April performances of Elf, the musical.
Athletic Director Alex Hanna notes that over 200 students in grades 7-12 participated in athletics. He also reports that free home game livestreams on YouTube have encountered some music copyright issues, so next year livestreams will be done through the HUDL Fan app, which will also be free.
