Music to fill lobby and Yoder Recital Hall, April 21
Bluffton University music groups will come together for a spring concert of fun and familiar tunes on Sunday, April 21, in Yoder Recital Hall.
At 2:00 p.m., pre-concert music will be provided in the lobby. A jazz combo will perform with senior trumpeter Caleb Gaertner, a Music major/graphic design minor from Toledo. Selections include “When I Fall in Love” – made famous by Nat King Cole – and “Song For My Father” by Horace Silver.
The 2:30 concert will feature the University Chorale, Camerata Singers and Concert Band in a varied program of classical music, as well as “just for fun” pieces.
The Chorale will perform “Song of Hope” by Andrea Ramsey. Camerata Singers will perform the “Agnus Dei” from the Requiem Mass by Maurice Duruflé, a work they recently performed in its entirety at the Masterworks concert. Both choral ensembles are under the direction of Dr. Bo Young Kang.
The Concert Band selections include “The King of Love My Shepherd Is,” based on the Irish hymn St. Columba. Senior clarinetist Kelly Bilen, an Art major with a graphic design minor from Archbold, Ohio, will be featured in an arrangement of “Oblivion,” a tango by Astor Piazzola. Other selections include an arrangement of “Epic Gaming Themes” and highlights from the animated film. Brave.” Dr. Roy Couch directs the Concert Band.
This event is free and open to the public.
