Obituary for Melanie Frances Mathewson Horn
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Melanie Frances Mathewson Horn, 29, of Ohio City.
She closed her eyes to this painful world for the last time on June 22, 2024, after a brief illness.
Melanie was born on December 2, 1994, to Eric Mathewson and Kimberly Cahill in Honolulu, HI. Melanie spent many happy early childhood days in the company of her paternal grandparents, then moved to Lima, OH. As a young teen, she learned the truth from the Bible about God’s purpose for the Earth and everyone on it. She loved to comfort others with what the Bible really says about the future, encouraging them to read and study it for themselves.
In addition to her full-time Christian ministry and being a wonderful homemaker, Melanie loved working with animals. She had worked at two Lima pet stores, so you may have benefited from her good advice on food and supplements for your pets.
On November 1, 2014, Melanie married David Riley Horn, who is left to mourn her until they are reunited in the earthly paradise promised by God at Revelation 21:3, 4, where we read “there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” (KJV)
Melanie is survived by her father, Eric (Rachel) Mathewson, of Bluffton; and her mother, Kimberly (Jason) Cahill of Oskaloosa, IA. Her grieving siblings are: Vickie Bartlow of Lima, OH; Sage Davenport, Natalie Henderson, and Daniel Cahill of Iowa; Logan Mathewson of Ada, OH; Kylie Mathewson and Tony Mathewson of Bluffton, OH. She is also survived by paternal grandmother Melanie (Robert) Bendele, many other relatives, plus her countless friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, located at 703 West Bluelick Road, Lima, OH 45801. The family will be on hand to receive visitors from 1:00-3:00 p.m. before the service. The funeral discourse honoring Melanie will be delivered by family friend, Chip Fifer. Interment will be a private family service at a later date.
