Letter: BVHS President-CEO asks community members to write to legislators

We at Blanchard Valley Health System are grateful to each and every one of you who showed your support for us during National Healthcare Week. We are honored to be entrusted with your care and to be so deeply woven into this community, which means so much to all of us.

Moving forward, we continue to ask for your support. As we emerge out of the COVID-19 pandemic, and as health care nationwide faces significant challenges, we urge community members to support local hospitals – and to let their legislators know that they offer that support.

Student cross-cultural experience in Ecuador

Grant W. Klinger, of Bluffton, Ohio, is participating in a Bluffton University cross-cultural experience in Ecuador during the month of May.

Klinger, along with other Bluffton students, will spend time in Quito and Cuenca. They’ll explore historical, cultural and geological areas including the Equator Museum, city markets and an active volcano.

In Cuenca, students will stay with host families and volunteer at the Centro Medico clinic during the weekdays. In the evenings and on the weekends, students will travel to various cultural and historical sites including Ingapirca (Incan ruins), Gualaceo (artisan weavers), Chordeleg (artisan jewelry) and Cajas National Park.

Klinger is a sophomore majoring in Medical Laboratory Science.

This experience will fulfill Bluffton’s undergraduate cross-cultural requirement that must be completed before graduation. Students can either complete a cross-cultural experience or take six credit hours in one foreign language.

Rain barrel sale in Lima

Based on the average rainfall in Allen County, a 1,000 square foot house could potentially harvest 7,650 gallons of water each year just from the amount of rain that falls annually on its roof.

For over ten years, the Allen Soil and Water Conservation District has been selling rain barrels to those who wish to take advantage of this free source of water. This collected water can be used to hydrate gardens, lawns, wash off equipment, and more.
