Farmer Advocates for Conservation event hosted in Allen County

On Tuesday, September 10, Burkholder Healthy Farms of Allen County hosted 73 people for a day of learning about cover crops and Farmer Advocates for Conservation work in Ohio.

Organizer Matt Burkholder says that "Farmers learned how to increase profits by reducing input costs, such as fertilizer, pesticides, and diesel fuel.... After walking in a summer planted cover crop field, those in attendance learned firsthand how cover crops and no till improve water infiltration, reduce nutrient runoff and soil erosion."

Burkholder also notes that 'Many Ohio farmers are hurting financially because of a wet spring, followed by extreme dry weather, with low corn and soybean prices."
