Pirate volleyball sweeps Carey

CAREY __ The visiting Bluffton Pirate volleyball team beat solid non-conference foe Carey in straight sets on Saturday, September 21.

The Pirates improved their record to a sparkling 13-2 with the 25-20, 25-21, 25-12 road sweep. Bluffton has won 12 of its last 13 matches.

Carey fell to 9-4 overall after the defeat.  

Karlie Lora led the Pirates with 11 kills. She also came up with 11 digs and dealt a pair of aces.

Kendall Stackhouse and Ayla Grandey each hammered nine kills. 

Setter Gracie Yarnell doled out 33 assists and came up with nine digs. 

Libero Avery Talavinia mustered a team-high 23 digs.

Libby Hocanson contributed three blocks and served two aces.

Carey won the JV match, 2-1. Bluffton captured the freshman bout, 2-1.

The Pirate spikers (2-0 NWC) visit perennially powerful league foe Crestview (10-2, 4-0 NWC) Tuesday, Sept. 24 in a key conference match.

Bluffton and the Knights are the only two unbeaten teams left in league play. The winner will have the inside track to the NWC title.
