CONVOY – The unbeaten Bluffton High School football team dominated host Crestview 42-0 in a Northwest Conference contest Saturday evening, October 5.
The rugged Pirate defense limited the Knights to just 95 total yards as they posted their second consecutive shutout.
The Pirates improved to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the NWC with the lopsided road win. Bluffton remains tied for first in the league with fellow unbeaten Columbus Grove (7-0, 4-0 NWC) as the two rivals continue on their week 10 collision course.
Meanwhile, the Knights fell to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the NWC after the blowout loss.
The Pirates scored 14 points in both the first and third quarters, and tallied seven apiece in the second and fourth periods.
Pirate senior speedster Griffin Stackhouse scored first on a 14-yard touchdown run in the opening stanza. The extra point kick by Jackson Brauen was good to put the Pirates ahead, 7-0.
Senior back Landen Worcester then found paydirt on a two-yard run, and Brauen’s PAT boot made it 14-0 after the first period.
Noah Bricker hauled in a 21-yard TD aerial from Bluffton quarterback Tayte Giesige for the only second stanza score. Brauen’s extra point kick put the Pirates on top 21-0 at the half.
Giesige’s 10-yard scoring toss opened the second half and stretched the margin to 28-0. Bricker caught a five-yard TD aerial from Giesige to extend the lead to 35-0 after three periods.
The last Pirate touchdown came in the final minutes of the fourth period. A middle screen lob from Giesige to Bricker reached the Knight 10. On third and goal from the one, Bricker bulled into the endzone off left tackle with 30 seconds left in the game on the running clock.
Brauen’s sixth and last PAT kick with 11 ticks remaining closed the scoring at 42-0.
