Allen County flu season update
As flu season approaches its peak, area hospitals and public health officials are reporting a significant rise in flu cases throughout Allen County and surrounding communities. In response, we are strongly urging residents to prioritize their health and the health of others by staying home if they are feeling unwell and by practicing good hygiene to limit the spread of disease.
To slow the spread of illness, Allen County Public Health recommends the following measures:
- Get vaccinated. It’s not too late to get your flu shot, which is the most effective way to prevent severe illness. Flu vaccine is available through local health care provider offices, pharmacies and Allen County Public Health (call 419-228-4457 to schedule an appointment).
- Wash hands frequently and utilize hand sanitizer stations located throughout the community.
- Cover coughs and sneezes by coughing or sneezing into your elbow or a tissue and not in your hands.
- Avoid visiting friends or family in hospitals or long-term care facilities if you are exhibiting flu-like symptoms.
- Stay home from school, work, or crowded places when feeling sick.
By following these steps, our community can work together to minimize the spread of the flu and protect public health. For additional information about the current state of influenza in Ohio please visit www.flu.ohio.gov/
