Fredrick “Fred” W. Evans served in the U.S. Army
Fredrick “Fred” W. Evans, 80, a long-time resident of Ada, went home to the Lord on February 2, 2025 at the Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton. He was born in April of 1944 in Pittsburgh, PA to Edwin Evans of North Lawrence, OH and Elizabeth (Myers) Evans of Ada.
Fred was a proud graduate of the 1962 class of Marion L. Steele High School in Amherst, OH. He was a certificate holder from the Oberlin School of Commerce and he was known for his exacting accounting capabilities in his early business employment.
Fred was drafted into the U.S. Army and he was honorably discharged in December of 1967. He loved his employment with the City Market and, upon retirement, he was honored for this 35 years of service at the Ada store. His service to the community was honored by being named Ada Citizen of the Year. He was an active and committed volunteer for any purpose. In his adult life he was a Sunday School teacher and an Elder, and he also ministered to the home-bound.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents and many beloved relatives and friends in the Ada community. He is survived by his brother Robert (Maureen) Evans of Tucson, Arizona, and also many nieces and nephews.
Fred was delighted to be an Elder among the faithful at the Mennonite Home for over ten years.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Fred at the Bethel Church of Christ in Ada, OH at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2025. A reception will follow at the church.
Interment in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Ada will be private.
