The Bluffton High School honor roll for the second quarter 2012-13 was recently released. It follows:

All A Honor Roll

AARP tax-aide help will be available at the Bluffton Senior Center starting at 9 a.m., Thursday Feb. 7, according to Tonya Meyer, director.

AARP volunteers specialize in helping taxpayers with low and moderate-income, with special attention to those aged 60 and older.

Appointment is required and may be made by calling 419-358-8971 or stop by the Bluffton Senior Center. Walk-ins will not be accepted.

A number of area police agencies are taking "scam" reports where male caller tries to get elderly person to "bond" someone out of jail, Rick Skilliter, Bluffton police chief informed The Icon.

"This area is again being targeted by callers claiming to be trying to secure money to bond family members out of jail. This scam primarily targeting elderly people who may have a hard time hearing over the phone," he said.

Fourteen Richland Manor employees were recognized by Trilogy Health Services for having perfect attendance in 2012, accoding to Sarah Foster, executive director of Richland Manor.

These staff members were among over 850 employees company-wide who did not miss a day of work and were not tardy from Jan. 1, 2012 through Dec. 31, 2012. For this achievement they received a $250 bonus and an additional day of paid time off, along with a plaque recognizing their accomplishment.

With all the end-of-year hype surrounding the fiscal cliff and the relief that came with New Year's legislation permanently extending most income tax rates, one change seems to have been veiled by the settling dust: the 2 percent increase in FICA (Federal Insurance Contributions Act) tax.

The Bluffton University men’s basketball team cruised to an 85-69 win over Heartland Conference foe Earlham College. Bluffton improved to 8-10 overall and 4-7 in the HCAC with their second thrashing of the Quakers in two weeks. The loss dropped Earlham to 2-16 on the year and 1-10 in conference play.
