George M. Brooks, 65, of Van Wert, passed away at 7:07 p.m. on January 27, 2022 at his residence.

He was born on February 9, 1956, in Bluffton, Ohio, the son of the late Gerald and Helen (Burkholder) Brooks. On June 24, 1978, he married the former Altha L. Roloson, who survives.

George was a 1974 graduate of Bluffton High School, a 1978 graduate of The Ohio State University, Columbus, with a Bachelor degree in Agriculture Economics, and a 1990 graduate of the School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin.

Avoid unnecessary trips Wednesday-Friday

The Ohio Department of Transportation is preparing for a major winter storm and urging Ohioans to avoid unnecessary trips Wednesday through Friday, February 2-4.

In northern Ohio, crews are preparing for significant amounts of snow. Some forecasts are calling for over a foot of snow with blowing and drifting conditions due to high winds.

The Bluffton Senior Center, 132 N. Main St, has announced that the February 3 Community Meal is canceled due to the snow storm forecast.

Chaplain Basil Meyer of Bluffton American Legion Post 382 has announced a worship service to observe the Sacrifice of Four Armed Forces Chaplains during World War II. This annual observance is part of the Legion’s “Service to God and country” program.

At 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2022, a public worship service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 116 Church St. Legion officials and clergymen are planning special programs for the observance of the 79th Anniversary of the sinking of the USS Dorchester and the heroism demonstrated by the four chaplains in that event.

Bluffton High School students

District III of the Ohio Music Education Association held High School Solo and Ensemble Adjudicated Events at Lima Senior High School on Saturday, January 29. Bluffton High School band, strings, piano and vocal music students performed with the following results. They were among performers from eight counties in northwest Ohio.
