Pay hikes in the works for Village employees

Hiring new police officers has been tough lately for the Village of Bluffton, but Council is now considering legislation that should make a big difference not only for this department but for all Village employees.

A wage survey of surrounding communities revealed that other police departments pay significantly more. This sparked a broader look at two similar-sized towns in the area, and the result is a proposal that delivers wage hikes to all Village employees.

Buckell's new novel featured in Tiffin presentation, October 28

Bluffton author Tobias S. Buckell, who has a newly released novel, A Stranger in the Citadel, will be appearing at Tiffin’s Pan Yan Bookstore on Saturday, October 28 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. The novel has been called “violent, poetic and compulsively readable” by Maclean’s.

Ticket sales for BHS football on Oct. 27, XC and girls soccer on Oct. 28

Regional football playoffs are at Bluffton's Harmon Field vs Paulding at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 27.  Presale tickets are $12 Adult, $9 Student or $15 at the gate. Children 5 and under do not need a ticket. From the athletic director: "No passes will be accepted tonight. Everyone must have a ticket or purchase a ticket to get into the game. Because it is a playoff game: No reserved seating. All seats are General Admission. No student tunnel to start the game. No powered noise makers including wireless speakers air horns or whistles."

Pirate Levi Fenzl competes in the regional high school cross country meet in Tiffin on Saturday at 10:45 a.m. 

The Girls Soccer District Championship is 1:00 p.m. at Bluffton's Steinmetz Field vs. Riverdale.

Cars & Coffee wraps up season on Saturday

Bluffton Cars & Coffee--an informal gathering for enthusiasts and their cars--invites all for their 2023 season finale, the last car show of the year (flyer).

Tonight's the night for tricks and treats, October 26

Village of Bluffton Trick or Treat will be on Thursday, October 26, 2023, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.

Bluffton University students will also be participating in a "Trick or Can" drive benefitting the Bluffton food pantry.

Ohio sheep producers visit Michigan

Fourteen Ohio sheep producers, industry representatives, and an OSU Extension Educator visited five different Michigan Lamb Marketing and Dry Lot/Confinement Sheep Operations the weekend of Saturday, September 30 and Sunday, October 1, 2023. This year’s tour was jointly sponsored by the Ohio Sheep Improvement Association and Hardin County OSU Extension. In addition to enjoying the fall color of the trees, producers were able to ask questions of the operators and see these farms as part of this tour in the state of Michigan. Topics included facilities, production, management, and marketing of lamb.
