Lunar new year first stamp of 2011 - available here Jan. 22

From a former U.S. president to legends of Latin music to the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500-mile auto race to the garden of love, the 2011 commemorative stamp program has something for everyone.

The U.S. Postal Service this week officially unveiled the images of its commemorative stamp program. Among this year's honorees are former President Ronald Reagan, legendary author Mark Twain, award-winning actor and actress Gregory Peck and Helen Hayes, and Latin music giants Selena, Carlos Gardel, Carmen Miranda, Tito Puente and Celia Cruz.

Matthews promoted to senior vice president at First National Bank

Brendon Matthews

Brendon Matthews has been promoted to Senior Vice President/Sales Director at First National Bank.

Matthews joined First National in 2006. He holds a bachelor's degree in English and an MBA from Anderson University. Matthews has nine years of banking experience between his time in Anderson, Ind., and Bluffton. He works in the Bluffton office of First National Bank.

He is active in several civic and community organizations including the Bluffton Center for Entrepreneurs, where he serves as board president.

Jan. 17 cafe fundraiser for local Iraqi Student Project

First Mennonite Church's BlauRock Cafe will present an evening of celebrating a vision of world peace expressed in music, prose, poetry, and the words of the Martin Luther King Jr.

The event is at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 17, in Fellowship Hall in the church.

The evening includes coffeehouse-style entertainment. Amy Lehman Mikesell, Hassan Mosoka and Shahad Aldoori offer reports of conflict and hope from various parts of the world.
