Runs went on the board with reckless abandon in the first four innings, but it was a pair of Bluffton scores in the eighth that proved to be the difference as the Beavers stunned Moravian College, 9-7, on Tuesday, March 4, 2014. The Greyhounds were coming off wins over nationally ranked #25 Adrian College and #17 Keystone as well as a sweep of Heidelberg. Bluffton improved to 2-1 on the season, while Moravian dropped to 5-2.

Opposition to an increase in the federal minimum wage “smacks of slavery,” Bluffton University’s Smucker Lecturer in social work said Feb. 25.

Arvis Averette, social work coordinator at the Chicago Center for Urban Life and Culture, recalled the 1963 March on Washington, saying “the most controversial issue we had” was a call for a minimum wage of $2 per hour.

A national search is underway for the next head football coach at Bluffton University. Tyson Veidt, the head coach since 2008, has accepted the position of linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Toledo.

“Coach Veidt built a strong foundation for our football program and has made a difference in the lives of many of our student-athletes,” said Phill Talavinia, athletics director. “We wish him all the best on his move to a Division I program.”

Dr. Trevor Bechtel, an associate professor of religion at Bluffton University, will focus on the animal kingdom when he presents Bluffton’s annual C. Henry Smith Peace Lecture at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, in Yoder Recital Hall.

Referencing an actress’s animal interest, Bechtel’s title is “The Already Peaceable Kingdom: Kristen Bell’s sloth fascination as a story of peace-building.” The lecture is free and open to the public.
