The Bluffton University men’s tennis team is preparing to take the courts for Hall-of-Fame coach Ron Huber’s final season at the helm.

With six experienced returners who all showed improvement during Bluffton’s first campaign following a two-year hiatus, the Beavers are ready to make their mark on the hardcourt this spring.

Bluffton University’s multicultural affairs office will host a soul food dinner at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, in The Commons in Marbeck Center.

Cost is $9 for the dinner plus a presentation that will follow at 6 p.m. in Yoder Recital Hall.

The program is scheduled to include performances by open-mic poet Xplicit and of the Langston Hughes poem “Negro Mother” by Janine King of Cleveland, and a stomp show by members of the Bowling Green State University chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.

Students in Bluffton University’s International Connection group lead a multicultural chapel service in Yoder Recital Hall that kicked off Global Weekend on campus Feb. 14-16.

Sponsored by International Connection, the weekend’s events also included a screening of the 2002 film “Whale Rider” and, on Saturday, Feb. 16, an ethnic meal, a piñata for children and an international variety and fashion show.

The Bluffton University track and field program traveled to the campus of Defiance College to compete in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference indoor track and field championships on Saturday, Feb. 16.

The Beavers set two new school records as well as multiple personal bests on their way to two 7th place finishes. Hanover College captured the women’s indoor title, while the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology won the men’s indoor title.

The Bluffton University women’s basketball season came to an end after a hard fought battle with regular season HCAC champion Transylvania University.

The Beavers lost 76-67 and missed out on the conference tournament by one game. Bluffton ended the season 12-13 and 7-11 in HCAC. Transylvania stands 20-5 and 16-2 in HCAC heading into next weekend's tournament in Lexington.

Dr. John Roth of Goshen College will address “‘Bearing Witness’ as Peacemaking: A New ‘Martyrs Mirror’ for the 21st Century?” in the 2013 C. Henry Smith Peace Lecture at Bluffton University.

Free and open to the public, his presentation will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, in Founders Hall.

The lecture will introduce a project aimed at gathering stories of Christian faithfulness in the face of adversity and suffering.
