After leading most of the way, the Bluffton University men's basketball team fell victim to a late second half run by the Johns Hopkins University Blue Jays on Saturday, Nov. 17.
The Beavers fell 58-56 to Johns Hopkins in the consolation game of the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Memorial Tournament hosted by Case Western University in Cleveland, Ohio.
The Bluffton University women’s basketball team opened the new Sommer Center and and its 2012-13 season with a hard-fought win over Aurora University on Friday, Nov. 16, 2012.
The Beavers (1-0) will play in the Tip-Off Tournament finals at 3 p.m. on Saturday against Hiram College, while Aurora matches up with Pitt-Greensburg at 1 p.m.
Standout tailback and kick returner Calib Alexander (Ocala, Fla./St. John Lutheran) was one of 12 Bluffton University football players to be named All-Heartland Conference for the 2012 season. The athletes were selected by the Heartland Conference coaches following the completion of the regular season.
In addition to Alexander, Bluffton placed four players on the first team, four on the second team and three were named honorable mention.
Dr. Alex Sider, an associate professor of religion at Bluffton University, has been appointed as the university’s Harry and Jean Yoder Scholar in Bible and Religion.
The five-year appointment provides Sider with annual funds to support scholarly research and writing in areas related to Anabaptist-Mennonite life and thought.
The Bluffton University men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the last meet of the season at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional cross country championships held on the campus of Andersen University.
A total of 37 teams from across the region and over 250 athletes per gender were competing for the opportunity to advance to the NCAA Cross Country Championships next Saturday in Terre Haute, Indiana.
