Bluffton University has risen in the U.S. News & World Report rankings of the top tier of “regional colleges” in the Midwest.
The 2013 edition of the magazine’s Best Colleges guidebook ranks Bluffton 21st among 99 comparable Midwestern institutions in the “Best Regional Colleges” listing, up from 25th last year. Now listed in the U.S. News rankings for 15 consecutive years, Bluffton has consistently been ranked in the top quarter of Midwest colleges.
Widespread and, in some cases, lengthy power outages caused by the June 29 windstorm were a reminder of the reality of modern ties to technology.
And that reality reinforces the relevance of Bluffton University’s 2012-13 civic engagement theme, “Virtual Living: Technology’s Impact on Culture and Learning,” university President Dr. James Harder said Tuesday (Sept. 11).

The Bluffton University men's soccer team scored twice in the final eight minutes to upend Shawnee State 2-1 on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012. The Beavers (1-2) picked up their first win of the season as Shawnee stayed winless at 0-5.
The home team posted an 11-6 edge in first half shots, but the match remained scoreless after 45 minutes of action. The Bears used a Luke Purpero direct kick in minute 62 to go up 1-0.
The Bluffton University football team traveled to Berea on Saturday, Sept. 8, to take on the 17th ranked Baldwin-Wallace Yellow Jackets in a non-conference matchup. The Beavers (1-1) struggled against a Yellow Jacket team that finished 8-2 a year ago, falling to the hosts 45-13 in Balwin-Wallace’s season opener.
