Bluffton Artist Series resumes with Burning River Brass

Tickets remain available for the next performance in the 2010-11 Bluffton University Artist Series, by Burning River Brass at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, in Yoder Recital Hall.

One of the most respected brass ensembles in the United States, Burning River Brass is composed of 12 of the finest brass and percussion players in the country.

Civil rights, Christian community activist to speak at Bluffton

Dr. John M. Perkins, who was active in the civil rights movement and advocates Christian community development as well as racial reconciliation, will discuss poverty during a Bluffton University Forum on Tuesday, Jan. 18.

Perkins' address, "Responding to Poverty," is free and open to the public, beginning at 11 a.m. in Yoder Recital Hall. It is part of Bluffton's observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

Bluffton takes advantage of foul line in 76-64 win over RHIT

The Bluffton University men's basketball team used a dominating second half performance to down Heartland Conference rival Rose-Hulman on Saturday, January 8, 2011. RHIT led 34-28 at the break before the Beavers came out with a vengeance in period two to secure a 76-64 victory. Bluffton improved to 9-4 overall and 2-4 in the HCAC, while Rose slipped to 9-4 and 3-3 in the conference.

Bluffton takes down Rose-Hulman in HCAC clash

The Bluffton University women's basketball team knocked off Heartland Conference rival Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 58-51 on Saturday, January 8, in Founders Hall. Bluffton improved to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in the HCAC. Rose-Hulman dropped to 2-4 in the conference and 4-9 on the season.

Hanover stays perfect in HCAC with 66-55 win over Beavers

The Bluffton University men's basketball team moved back into Heartland Conference action when it traveled to Hanover College on Wednesday, January 5, 2011. Hanover used a 10-0 run to start the game and an 8-0 spurt right before halftime to secure a 66-55 win over the Beavers. The Panthers won their eighth straight game in improving to 9-2 overall and 5-0 in the HCAC, while Bluffton fell to 8-4 and 1-4 in the conference.

Bluffton colloquium to address children's reading skills

Dr. Starr Keyes, assistant professor of education at Bluffton University, will discuss her dissertation research into improving elementary students' reading skills at a colloquium on Friday, Jan. 14. Free and open to the public, the event will begin at 4 p.m. in Stutzman Lecture Hall in Bluffton's Centennial Hall.

Focusing on research she completed at an elementary school in Columbus, Ohio, while working on her doctorate at The Ohio State University, Keyes will present data on a technique that aids students' reading skills.
