Senior Center spring garage sale April 15-16

Bluffton Senior Citizens Center, 132 N. Main St., will hold its spring garage sale Friday and Saturday, April 15-16. Friday hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday hours are 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. A garage sale half-price and clean up takes place on Monday, April 18.

Five MMH staff members recognized on March 29

Five staff members of Mennonite Memorial Home were chosen from a list of nominees to receive special recognition this spring.

The five were honored at the 2011 Stars West Regional Employee Recognition luncheon, held March 29, at Otterbein, St. Marys.

Those recognized were:

  • Kayla Herrmann
  • Emily Koogler
  • Kristen Niekamp
  • Karen Wilkins

Mennonite Memorial Home and McDonald's host April 16 community Easter egg hunt

The Easter Bunny and some of the McDonald's Restaurant characters will visit youth at this year's community Easter egg hunt.

The egg hunt is at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 16, at Mennonite Memorial Home, 410 W. Elm St.

Children ages 8 and under are welcome to come, hunt for hidden eggs, register for prizes, gift baskets and have their pictures taken with the McDonald's characters.

Doughnuts and refreshments will be provided. Don't be late, the hunt begins at 10 a.m. sharp and the eggs go quickly.

Joanne Niswander - On the "Maine" road again

I've been traveling again, which leads to another column for any of you interested in another part of the world.

Not across the equator this time, but at the far eastern end of our time zone - Maine. Many of you have visited that state, and I suspect that most of your trips have taken place during Maine's glorious, but short, vacation season.

Two elementary gymnasts have successful seasons

Two local gymnasts have had very successful gymnastics seasons.

Taylor Born, daughter of Darren Born and Dominic and Ricki Francis is a 3rd grade student at Cory-Rawson Elementary.

Elizabeth Bourassa, daughter of Mark and Jackie Bourassa is a 2nd grader at Bluffton Elementary.

Both girls are level 4 gymnasts and train at Halker's Gold Gymnastics in Ottawa. Taylor was the All-Around Champion at the R5 Cup in Cincinnati and placed 5th at the Wolverine Classic and 4th at the Nashville Nights Gymnastics Meet.
