Bluffton boys nip Wauseon at Elida

The Bluffton boys soccer team edged Wauseon 4-3 Saturday evening in the third-place game of the Elida Classic tournament.

Bluffton's semifinal game Thursday night was cancelled due to bad weather, which relegated the Pirates to the consolation contest.

The Pirates improved to 2-0 with the win, while Wauseon fell to 2-2 with the loss. Botkins faced Elida in the title game later Saturday night.

Festival of Wheels, Sat., Aug. 28

Bluffton's Festival of Wheels is Saturday, August 28, with registration beginning at 2 p.m. and judging of cars at 5 p.m.

Weekend Doctor: Please Don't Kiss the Baby

It’s always a joyful moment when a new baby is born. Everyone in the family wants to come to meet the new addition. A few days later, this precious little baby is struggling to breathe and needs to be in the ICU with RSV bronchiolitis.

Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is generally a virus present in the winter, usually at its worst in January and February each year. This year, RSV and influenza were conspicuously absent in the winter months. There are likely multiple reasons for this, but the bottom line is that RSV is here now.

Lady Pirates fall at Wapak

The visiting Bluffton girls tennis team lost to Wapakoneta 5-0 Wednesday evening.

The Lady Pirate netters fell to 2-4 with the loss. Wapak improved to 6-2 with the victory.

The Lady Redskins won all five matches in straight sets.

The Pirate girls host Fostoria Monday, August 30.

Russel Suter was an owner of Suter Strawberry Farm

Russel V.  Suter, age 93, died at 9:07 pm August 24, 2021, at Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay.

Russel was born November 4, 1927 in Columbus Grove, OH, to the late Harry and Lydia (Lugibihil) Suter. On August 28, 1948 he married Jean Diller who preceded him in death on May 11, 2010.

Lady Pirate spikers outlast Rockets

The host Bluffton volleyball team pulled out a five-set victory over non-league rival Pandora-Gilboa Wednesday night.

The Pirate girls won the 17-25, 25-18, 25-23, 20-25, 15-6 marathon to improve to 2-0. Bluffton beat Riverdale 3-0 in their opener Aug. 23. P-G dropped to 1-1 with the loss.

Senior middle hitter Kylie Stackhouse hammered 25 kills and made five blocks to pace the victors.

Freshman 6-1 middle Ayla Grandey contributed 13 kills. Senior Kylie Monday amassed seven kills, 15 digs and served seven aces.
