Letter: Here's an update on Bluffton PTO projects

Icon viewers

Spring is here and that means the end of the school year is quickly approaching.

The PTO committee has been busy discussing and working on many projects we want to complete before the end of the school year.

We will be providing $400 for each grade level (K through 5th) to purchase new accelerated reader books; a total of $2400.

We will be purchasing three SmartBoards, along with USB cables, for three of the third grade classrooms.  One classroom was completed previously.  The cost will be around $4758.

Letter: Some information about 1965 tornado cleanup by NYC Jewish youth

Icon viewers:

Here are some recollections about the April 11, 1965, Palm Sunday tornado from Icon viewer and former Bluffton resident, Anne McGinnis Parker.

1965 PALM SUNDAY TORNADO

Bluffton area was declared a disaster area by the federal government. Unfortunately, the declaration was not accompanied by funds. Mutual Insurance companies were left bankrupt by the many claims. A small sum from the State of Ohio was far from enough to repair the wide-spread damage.

Letter: 50th anniversary celebration of BHS street painting this year

Icon Viewers:

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the "Painting of the Street" in front of the high school.  As one of the original "artists" I'm considering getting the band back together. We could just show up that day and enjoy the tradition that it has become; from it humble and clandestine beginnings.

I do not know the date of this year's festivities.  Can yIcon viewers help me with that?  Also, I have not mentioned this to the other band members.

Thanks for your help.
