Ana Neufeld Weaver plans to pursue music education

Ana Neufeld Weaver, a Bluffton High School senior, is the September student of the month.

She is a member of the BHS Academic team, Latin Club, Drama Club, National Honor Society, Chamber Choir, Show Choir, BHS Orchestra, and is in the Lima Area Youth Orchestra.

She attends First Mennonite Church in Bluffton where she is a member of their youth group, vocal choir and bell choir. She is also a member of  Girl Scout Troop 20643.

Seniors are Olivia Burner, Kayla White, Libby Schaadt, Luke Denecker, Jimmy O'Donnell and Baylor Garmatter

Bluffton High School freshman, Amy Jebsen, performed during the Sept. 13, Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce breakfast. She is a student at Krysti's Music Studio. Each month a student from Krysti's performs during the breakfast.

Civil War-era Bluffton barn going to Lexington, Kentucky

A rural Bluffton barn constructed during the Civil War is moving to Lexington, Kentucky.

The barn is located on the Justin King farm on Bixel Road. King, said that barn was built in 1861, and possibly earlier.

He told the Icon that the 80-foot wide barn is being dismantled and will be reconstructed and used as a barn in the Lexington area.

Ohio Valley Barn Salvage, Mt. Gilead, Ohio, is in charge of the project.

Apollo Career Center welcomes Julie Adams, a nationally board certified teacher and consultant, who has trained around the world in the science and strategies helpful to parents, instructors and school administrators.

She will speak to Apollo staff on Friday, Sept. 20, 8:30-11:30 a.m., about neuroscience and the teen brain, and then work with instructors in the afternoon on specific lesson plans incorporating the new information and adding it to the curriculum.

Auditions for Noteworthy Community Choir held soon

Well, yes!  Noteworthy Community Choir has an inter-generational choir (Expressions) that meets Monday evenings from 7:15 - 9:15 p.m.

"We have singers ages 14 through 70+ and have had a wonderful time serving our communities through song," says Vicki Mills of Ada, director.

"New singers are welcome, and the audition is short and sweet, consisting of  singing 30 seconds of your favorite song, and running a few exercises to determine your range and musicianship skills."
