Madeline Burghaze hopes to major in biology after high school

Madeline Burghaze is the Bluffton High School January student of the month.

The BHS senior is a member of Spanish Club, Drama Club, National Honor Society and Student Senate. She is involved in the youth group and children's ministry at Ebenezer Mennonite Church and participates in its mission trips.

She was awarded student of the year in Spanish II, Advanced Algebra II, Spanish III and American Government. 

In her spare time she enjoys reading, writing and traveling. After graduation she plans to attend Indiana Wesleyan University and major in Biology.

Miller City freshman competes in Feb. 23 Ohio Has Talent

A young performer with a Bluffton connection will perform in the Saturday, Feb. 23, Ohio Has Talent competition, at Niswonger Performing Arts Center, Van Wert.

Raegan Cox, 14, a Miller City HS freshman, is the performer. Raegan performed at this year’s Blaze of Lights in November. She takes vocal and piano lessons at Krysti’s Music Studio, Bluffton.

She has been singing and entertaining people for most of her life. In 5th grade, she was accepted in an All-State Choir and performed with 88 other 4thand 5th graders at Capital University.

Gardeners of the Bluffton Pandora Area will hold their first meeting of the year at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 5, in the Bluffton Public Library.

Officers of the club for 2019 are:

• Patrick Flinn, secretary
• Joyce Fuerst, immediate past president and director
• Anita Darnell, director.

All “A” Honor Roll

After 25 years of service, Michael Schoenhofer, executive director of the Mental Health & Recovery Services Board of Allen, Auglaize and Hardin Counties will retire on Jan. 31.

Schoenhofer has served as president of the Lima Rotary Club and president of the Ohio Association of County Behavioral Health Authorities. He has served on the Governor’s Advisory Board at the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services, the Social Work Advisory Board at Bluffton University, the Allen County Health Department Board, and West Central Learning Academy’s Board.
