Bluffton grapplers open season

The Bluffton High School wrestling team hosted a three-team match Tuesday night, December 6, to kick off their 2022-23 season.

The Pirates lost a nailbiter tie-break to Lima Senior 31-30, and defeated Carey 48-33.

Wyatt Knauss won two matches at 113 lbs. by pin and forfeit. Micah Rehm also collected a pin and a forfeit win at 132 lbs. Evan Grothause earned a pin vs. Carey and had a forfeit at 157 lbs. vs. the Spartans. Jett Blackburn won a 12-5 decision at 138 lbs. vs. Carey.

Carey beat the Spartans, 66-18.

Pirate Armstrong to run as an Oiler

Bluffton High School senior Landon Armstrong recently signed a letter of intent to run track and field and cross country at the University of Findlay.  

Landon is the son of Natalie and Andy Armstrong.

Landon is a two-time state placer in cross country, finishing 15th in 2021 and third in 2022. He is the BHS record-holder in cross country with a time of 15:34.0. 

As a sophomore Landon finished eighth in the 4x800 relay, and 10th in the 800.

BHS November student of the month

The November student of the month at Bluffton High School is Jonah Rehm, a senior with a 3.849 GPA. Jonah is the son of Brad and Jamie Rehm of Jenera.

Rehm is in the band including concert, jazz, marching and pep band, and was elected President of the band. He also is in the high school orchestra. Jonah is a member of the National Honor Society, the Academic team and is on the Varsity cross country team. This past summer, Jonah was a participant at Buckeye Boys State representing Bluffton High School.

Brazilian Civil Engineering student's long path to NW Ohio

Serendipity brought civil engineering student Vini Vieira de Souza from Brazil to Northwest Ohio, where at every turn he’s encountered people with an Ohio Northern University connection who are as committed to helping him succeed as he is to succeeding.

This summer, his journey brought him to Wessler Engineering in Bluffton, Ohio where three ONU alums are showing him that relationship-building — that distinctive ONU attribute — is an excellent foundation not just for college, but for life

Radio Dispatcher Tyree honored in Findlay

FINDLAY– Ohio State Highway Patrol Dispatcher Ashlee Tyree has been selected as the 2022 Dispatcher of the Year at the Findlay Dispatch Center. Dispatcher Tyree has also been selected as the 2022 Dispatcher of the year for the Findlay District. 

Tyree, 37, was honored in recognition of outstanding service of the past year at the Findlay Dispatch Center. Sworn officers and dispatchers chose Tyree based on technical job knowledge and ability, enthusiastic work attitude, teamwork, and prompt and courteous response to the public’s requests for information and assistance.

Findlay and Lima posts announce troopers of the year

Trooper David Lopez II and Trooper Kenton J. Gibson honored by local posts

FINDLAY--Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper David Lopez II has been selected as the 2022 Trooper of the Year at the Findlay Post. 

The selection of Trooper Lopez, 30, is in recognition of outstanding service during 2022 at the Findlay Post. Fellow officers stationed at the Findlay Post chose Trooper Lopez based on leadership abilities, professional ethics, courteous treatment of others, enthusiastic work attitude, and cooperation with supervisors, peers, and the public.
