Bertie Shrider Swank will celebrate her 99th birthday on April 10. She was born in Allen County near Lafayette, in 1915, and has lived her entire life in the Bluffton area.
She married Fred Swank and they had three children: Nancy (and Ed) Yeager, Linda (and Tom) Benroth, and Bill (and Joan) Swank. The family, including nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, will honor her birthday on April 13.

Ohio Northern University will dedicate the Freed Center for the Performing Arts’ stage in honor of former Bluffton residents Nils and Susan Riess on Friday, April 11, at 7:30 p.m. prior to the ONU production of “Footloose.”
Bluffton cyclist Everett Collier takes lots of bike rides around the block, and this summer that block extends for 3,600 miles.
Collier will participate in the 7th annual Fuller Center Bike Adventure. It’s a bike ride from Atlantic City, New Jersey, to Astoria, Oregon. The ride starts June 5 and finishes on Aug. 10 – with several stops along the way where bikers will assist in building projects with Fuller Center covenant partners.
As of the of March Collier had raised over $6,000 for his efforts in the trip.
The Bluffton Lions have a busy month planned in April. One of the events is a banquet honoring Richard Ramseyer as Lions Citizen of the Year. The banquet is April 15 at First Mennonite Church.

Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio (MHCO) and Jerry Lewis’ McDonald’s will host their annual Easter egg hunt at 10 a.m. sharp, Saturday, April 12, at Mennonite Memorial Home, 410 W. Elm St., Bluffton.
The Easter egg hunt will take place come rain or shine. There is no rain date. Children ages 8 and under are invited to come, hunt for hidden eggs, register for prizes, gift baskets and have their parents take their pictures with the Easter Bunny.
Doughnuts are donated by Community Markets and hot beverages will be provided by MHCO.
