Two public sessions set to explain-answer questions about income tax issue on March 6 ballot

Two public meetings are planned for the next two Thursdays for voters to learn about and ask questions about the proposed one-quarter percent income tax measure on the March 6 Bluffton primary ballot.

Note: An attachment at the bottom of this story provides a project list should the levy pass.

The meetings are both at 7:30 p.m., with one on Thursday, Feb. 23, and the second on Thursday, March 1, in the third floor of the town hall, according to Jamie Mehaffie, village administrator.

Concession stand, restrooms for Steinmetz Field on school board's Monday agenda

The Bluffton school board is developing a plant to install a concession stand and restrooms at Steinmetz Field, the soccer field used by Bluffton boys' and girls' soccer teams. One of agenda items on Monday's board meeting authorizes R.D. Neff & Associates to develop plans and bid specifications for the project.

A different type of police vehicle is on its way to Bluffton. On Monday Bluffton council okayed the purchase of an all-wheel drive 2013 Ford police interceptor vehicle as its newest member of the fleet.

Grinding scheduled at recycling center - a certain sign that spring is on the way

It's a certain sign of spring - grinding at the Spring Street recycling center is planned for later this month. According to Jamie Mehaffie, Bluffton village administrator, double-grinding of material at the dump will start on Feb. 20. He said that the grinding should take about 35 hours to complete.

Mehaffie also reported that so far this winter the village has purchased 67 tons of salt and 200 tons are in reserve.

Bluffton council picks Everett Collier as newest council member

Everett Collier, Bluffton's newest council member

Bluffton council removed its "vacancy" sign Monday evening. Bluffton's recently retired postmaster, Everett Collier was sworn in to fill the vacant council seat left when Eric Fulcomer resigned to become mayor.

Collier was appointed by council and was one of six persons interviewed for the opening last week, according to Dennis Gallant, council president. Because Collier fills a vacancy, his council term will be for two years instead of four.

Village of Bluffton tax forms available on line

Village of Bluffton Tax Forms for 2011 are available on the village website at www.bluffton-ohio.com under the Income Tax Tab.

Forms are also available in the front lobby of the town hall building at 154 N Main St. Effective beginning with the 2010 tax year, tax forms are no longer mailed out to each taxpayer unless specifically requested.
