Health department reports covid-19 outbreak in Delphos

Health officials from Allen County Public Health are notifying the public about a coronavirus outbreak in the Delphos.

Eighteen people who attended the Delphos Eagles since Sept. 22, have tested positive for the coronavirus. There are 8 hospitalizations associated with this outbreak. The outbreak is not related to one particular event, rather a variety of activities over several days.

Life Flight helicopters will stock and carry blood on board

Bluffton Airport one of four airbases maintained in the program

The helicopters in the Mercy Health – Life Flight fleet, including those that use the Bluffton Airport, will now stock and carry blood on board helicopters to give patients in need of lifesaving transfusions.

Mercy Health has invested in storage facilities at each of the four Life Flight locations to house and maintain blood right at the base. This new approach means that our flight crews will bring blood on every patient transport.

BHS hosts financial aid seminar via YouTube Wednesday

A financial aid seminar via YouTube will take place at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 14, sponsored by the Bluffton High School guidance office.

This is for parents and students of juniors and seniors who are planning to continue their education beyond high school. 

The presenter is Lawrence Matthews, Director of Financial Aid at Bluffton University. BHS guidance counselor, Dr. Smith, will e-mail the link to participants prior to the program.

Women's Ride to Vote Oct. 17

Hundreds of absentee ballots to be delivered to election boards

On Saturday, Oct. 17, hundreds of voters in five counties will participate in a rally and ride to highlight the importance of early voting, culminating in a ceremonial delivery of ballots to the county boards of elections. 

Participants will gather at the Bluffton Democrat headquarters at 216 W. Elm St., at 10 a.m. for a lineup of speakers that includes female lawyers, activists, youth and politicians. After the rally, people with absentee ballots and supporters will drive in caravans to their boards of elections and submit their ballots at the drop box.

A record number of Ohioans have requested an absentee ballot

2.1 million absentee ballot applications received by Ohio boards of elections

On the first day of early voting and with just four weeks until Election Day, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose announced 2,154,235 absentee ballot applications have been received by county boards of elections statewide.

This includes 21,570 requests from military and overseas voters whose absentee ballots began to be mailed Sept. 18.

All other absentee ballots were mailed on Oct. 6. Over the past week, 158,839 new absentee ballot requests were submitted by Ohio voters. Totals from early in-person voting will be included in next week’s release.
