It appears that the Bluffton and Richland Township residents stepped up to their civic duty and have responded to calls to participate in the 2020 U.S. Census.
The accompanying map shows that between 86 and 95 percent of much of the county including local residents have responded.
In fact, Allen County’s response rate is now at 83 percent. Ohio’s overall rate is 72 percent and the national participation rate is only 67 percent.
It’s September and that means the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce breakfast meetings are on the calendar.
The first meeting of the new season is Friday morning. It features the Blanchard River Watershed Partnership and West Central Ohio Land Conservancy, according to Paula Scott, CEO of the chamber.
Ken Mauer (wcolc.org) and Lauren Sandhu (blanchardriver.org) are the featured. They will discuss a rescheduled water and land tour.
This is the final installment in this series.
Summer is a great time to explore the art spread across the Bluffton community – especially for viewers unable to visit art galleries elsewhere in Ohio.
As a weekly series, The Icon has featured the art created by John Peter Klassen, a long-time Bluffton College art professor.
For some viewers, this series is familiar. For others, it may be a first-time experience.

As Bluffton becomes a more friendly bicycle village, more incentives become available to encourage bike use here.
The most recent is the creation of 17 bicycle parking spaces to be installed this fall along the Main Street business district.
The bike racks come as a result of a $5,000 grant from the Allen County Health Department’s "Creating Healthy Communities.”
Those 17 parking spaces are planned for:
• Town hall (3 spaces)
• Presbyterian alley (4)
• Edward Jones alley on North Main (5)
• Book ReViews alley (5)
Governor DeWine announced details for Ohio's forthcoming case reporting order for K-12 schools.
Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8, parents or guardians and school staff should notify their school within 24 hours of receiving a positive test or a clinical diagnosis.
Within 24 hours after receiving that notification, the school should notify other parents and guardians about that case in writing, providing as much information as possible without releasing protected health information.
The school must also notify their local health department within 24 hours.
