Hospital Auxiliary invites participation in annual fund campaign

Area residents should watch for an invitation in the mail to participate in this year's Bluffton Hospital Auxiliary Hearts and Hands Campaign, underway this month, according to Marty Lemley, auxiliary president.

"Last year through everyone's generous support the campaign and Auxiliary fundraisers enabled us to donate $15,000 for the surgery-emergency room expansion," said Lemley.

The Auxiliary has pledged $75,000 for a five-year period toward this project. The current drive seeks monetary donations to assist in this project.

Bluffton farmers' market returns for 2012 season on May 5

Mark your calendar. Saturday, May 5, means Bluffton's Farmers' Market returns to Main Street for 2012.

Peter Previte, Bluffton farmers' market coordinator, told The Icon this week that persons involved in the market are busy preparing for the opening day, Saturday, May 5. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to noon.

The market continues each Saturday - rain or shine - through the final Saturday of October, which is Oct. 27.

BVHS Service of Remembrance to be held at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Findlay

The 11th annual BVHS Service of Remembrance will be held at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, 120 W. Sandusky Street in Findlay on Sunday, April 22, at 2 p.m.

The non-denominational memorial service will honor BVHS patients and residents who died in 2011. All are welcome to attend the service, which will be followed by a reception.

Bluffton Hospital awarded LEED Green Building Certification

Bluffton Hospital has been awarded LEED Silver certification for the design, construction and operation of the new Bluffton Hospital ER and Surgery expansion as a high performance "green" building according to Bill Watkins, chief administrative officer of the hospital.

Strong winds coming through Bluffton area this afternoon

Bluffton Icon viewers should watch for rapidly changing weather conditions today (April 16).

According AEP Community Relations, the following storm advisor was issued this morning: Strong southwest winds will develop today behind a cold front crossing the region. Much of Ohio will see sustained winds increase to 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph.

However...the highest winds will be over northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio where gusts may hit 50 mph this afternoon. Winds this strong are likely to cause minor to moderate problems for the utilities.

Food boxes available for households in Pandora-Gilboa community

The churches of Pandora and Gilboa are offering food boxes for households in the Pandora-Gilboa School District.

The boxes are designed to provide nine meals for a family of four.

In order to pick up a box, you must register by 5 p.m. on Monday, April 23, by calling 419-384-3905. Boxes will be available for pickup on Saturday, April 28, at 11 a.m. at the Pandora United Methodist Church located on State Route 12.
